India: A Memorable Tour Searching for Steam is a personal account by J A Berry of a three-week railway enthusiast trip to India. Run by Dorridge Travel Service and the Industrial Railway Society the tour took place in late December 1979 and early January 1980, at a time when steam traction was still prevalent in much of the country.
A map of India shows the places visited and short chapters cover each of these locations, which include Bombay, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Madras (now Chennai), Calcutta, Darjeeling and Delhi. Alongside the steam images there are two photographs taken in Calcutta which show a service tram, and a specially-hired tram which had been arranged as transport for the group. For each location visited the book lists the locos observed and the author shares his personal recollections and experiences of the tour. At the back there is an appendix listing all loco classes viewed.
